4 Day School Week Plan Scrapped by Weather
4 Day School Week Plan Scrapped by Weather - Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 6:25PM EST
LOCUST TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY- A local school district that cut the number of schools days in the week to save some cash will have to put the plan on hold because of weather.
Southern Columbia School District planned on having four-day school weeks in January and February. The 8-days off would save the district between $50,000 and $60,000.
Superintendent Charles Reh told Eyewitness News, "We'd not be running buses, there'd be a reduction in salaries for some employees, we would save $6500 a day, in addition to our heating costs and electricity."
The district says due to snow days they might have to put scheduled days off back on the calendar. While they won't be saving thousands of dollars, the district says the savings were not counted in this years' budget.
