Lock Haven, Clinton County-

A one percent increase on the state’s sales tax could come into play in the near future.

A special committee is looking into allowing individual counties to tack on the extra percent.

The tax would apply to everything except food, clothing, and essential items.

The revenue would be used to provide property tax relief.

Based on 2007 numbers, Clinton County could make about $1.5 million through the increase. Larger counties could expect more money than that.
