SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded two contracts in support of flood control for the Green Ridge section of Scranton.

One, for 2 million dollars, involves the construction of a 400-foot-long flood wall just upstream from the East Market Street Bridge. The other, for 2.3 million dollars, involves construction of utility and drainage structures on the downstream side of the bridge.

The Lackawanna River runs through that section of the city and the neighborhood has had many floods over the years.
