WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- It’s been a bittersweet night for dozens of families across the area. Many local troops are going off to war as others are coming home.

Congressman Paul Kanjorski spoke to 89 soldiers from the 11th Military Brigade in Ashley at the Wachovia Arena Monday night. They're getting ready to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan later this year.

Meanwhile the V. A. Medical Center was holding its own celebration in the arena, honoring those people who have served the country. Family and friends as well as other veterans were all on hand to wish some soldiers well and to welcome the others home.
