MAHANOY CITY, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY- A new study says Pennsylvania's groundwater is being contaminated by the disposal of coal ash.

It found toxins like lead and chromin in several waterways. The study's author looked at 15 coal mines across the state and found 10 of the 15 are hurting the state's waterways.

Three of them are in Schuylkill County. They are the Silverbrook Mine, Ellen Gownan Mine, and B-D mine.

The Mahanoy Creek Watershed Association is filing a petition with the department of Environmental Protection to get the contaminants cleaned up.
