SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A two alarm fire left six people without a place to stay Tuesday night. The fire happened in the city's North side.
When crews arrived at North Main Avenue and Court Street, heavy smoke was pouring from the building. It spread so fast it quickly became a two alarm fire.
The apartments housed two families who got out safely. Neighbors called 9-1-1. Neighbor Jack Gaffney saw it all happen. "We were sitting on the porch and a girl and her brother came out yelling, 'Help help!' We saw the smoke and my wife called 9-1-1," Gaffney said.
City Fire Chief Tom Davis said, "When the fire crews arrive on the scene smoke and flames were coming from the building we called in a second alarm and brought in more manpower."
The D & R Body Shop was located next door but was not damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
